Choosing Reliable Moving Services
The right moving services care about the possessions and process of moving their customers. Because of the Internet, more and more consumer based companies are realizing that they cannot escape a bad reputation. The same goes for moving services, which is why it is that much more important for you to research your moving company a little before you end up choosing one based on a catchy advertisement in the newspaper or on television. Nine times out of ten, your moving service will treat your belongings and boxes with care, and your items will end up back at your new home without any problems. But there is still that one chance that things might not end up quite the way you planned them. The tips provided in this article will help you make a much more informed decision about which moving truck company you choose.
Research The Company
Use these tips to get a better analysis of your ideal moving service.
• Call the Better Business Bureau and check and see if the companies you are interested in have any complaints filed against them, either current, or in the past, and how serious the violations might have been. One or two incidents is not too unusual, but several open complaints are certainly reason enough to reconsider.
• If you're moving interstate, then you need to check the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The website for the administration lists all the movers registered as being interstate services.
• Also check to see if your movers are registered with any other organizations, such as the American Moving & Storage Association or a state movers association.
• You can also ask your friends and neighbors, associates, and relatives, whoever, what companies they liked during their moves, and what kind of experiences they had with them. Try to ask about companies that actually do business in the area though; asking about a company in Arizona, when you're looking to move to California, probably won't do a whole lot of good.
• Check and see if the movers on the list you have compiled have a "dispute settlement program"; this is an excellent sign that the moving companies you're interested in, actually care about their clients.
• Last, but definitely not least, check to see if the company has insurance to protect their clients against damaged or lost items. Your belongings are supposed to have proper care during the move, and if they end up broken because of carelessness, then you need a moving company that is willing to be accountable for their mistakes.
Getting Quotes From Several Companies
You need to have certain information ready before you can get an honest quote; so before some pushy sales representative tries to take over and give you a bunch of too good to be true prices, get in there and give them the facts. Be confident, and aggressive; you'll get a better and more realistic response. Have this information ready to assertively give the person taking the call:
• Of course, you'll need your current address, and the address of your new house, or apartment.
• What floors your apartment or condo is on where you live now, and the one you're moving into, as well as whether or not there are any elevators, and if they can be reserved for use during your moving day. But obviously just if you actually are moving out of and/or into an apartment.
• You also need to ask what kind of estimate you will actually be getting; there are three kinds, Binding, Non-Binding, and Not To Exceed. Non-binding means that the price can fluctuate, and there may be hidden costs. Binding, means a fairly exact estimate that may only fluctuate a tiny bit, and Not To Exceed is self-explanatory: you set a price, and they give you an estimate that doesn't exceed that amount.
